Network Cablings
Network cabling, also known as structured cabling, serves as the backbone of any business' internal network infrastructure. Even in environments dominated by Wi-Fi connectivity, the quality of cabled installations remains pivotal for network reliability.
DBS Technology takes pride in offering high-quality structured cabling installations tailored to businesses of all sizes. Our network cabling teams excel in delivering neat and tidy installations, completed promptly thanks to their extensive collective experience.
We are proficient in installing networks using CAT5e for speeds up to 1Gb/s or Shielded CAT5 cable in areas prone to background or magnetic noise that could disrupt network traffic. Moreover, our expertise extends to CAT6 and Shielded CAT6 installations, ideal for organisations seeking to future-proof their infrastructure for 10Gb/s local throughput.
While our focus lies in new installations, we are equally adept at rectifying existing setups to meet the highest industry standards. Our IT Network Support teams stand ready to assist regardless of your requirements or current circumstances.
DBS Technology offers a range of Wi-Fi solutions suitable for businesses of any size, from centrally managed, large-scale Wi-Fi networks to smaller deployments spanning just a few rooms. A robust and reliable Wi-Fi network empowers users to navigate the office freely without tethering to cables, ensuring constant connectivity to the internet and local resources.
Upon completing the network cabling and Wi-Fi installation, our advanced networking team implements robust security measures to safeguard your private network. This includes configuring internet access limitations for staff members or guests and creating Virtual LANs to segment your network according to your organisation's needs.
Rest assured, DBS Technology prioritises the security and reliability of your network infrastructure.
We proudly partner with industry-leading brands such as Cisco, Dell, and HP for switch installations; Ubiquiti, Cisco, HP, and Mikrotik for Wi-Fi installations; and Maxxim, Molex, and Legrand for structured cabling installations.
The Differences Between CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6, and CAT6a Cables
Understanding the distinctions between CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6, and CAT6a cables is crucial when considering network cabling options. The term "Cat" stands for "category," denoting the various types of network cables available for implementing network infrastructure. While all Ethernet cables serve the purpose of transmitting signals, they differ in performance and suitability for specific applications.
CAT5 cable, commonly used in structured cabling for computer networks, supports connection speeds of 10/100 Mbps, classified as fast Ethernet, with a bandwidth of up to 100 MHz.
CAT5e, or CAT5 enhanced, is frequently employed in new installations to mitigate crosstalk—an interference phenomenon between signals on different channels. It can handle speeds of up to 1000 Mbps, known as Gigabit Ethernet, operating at a frequency of 100 MHz.
CAT6 is designed for up to 10 gigabit Ethernet, boasting a frequency of 250 MHz. While CAT6 achieves speeds of 10 Gbps over distances of 33-55 metres, it incorporates an internal separator to minimize crosstalk issues.
CAT6a, where the "a" denotes "augmented," signifies enhanced specifications compared to CAT6. CAT6a supports speeds of up to 10 Gbps over 100 metres of cable, operating at a frequency of up to 500 MHz. With its doubled data transmission bandwidth from 250 MHz to 500 MHz, CAT6a offers greater reliability and faster transmission speeds. Additionally, CAT6a cables are often shielded, making them ideal for industrial environments where electromagnetic interference may be prevalent.
In summary, while CAT5 and CAT5e are suitable for standard Ethernet applications, CAT6 and CAT6a offer increased performance, higher speeds, and improved crosstalk mitigation, with CAT6a providing superior reliability and transmission speeds, particularly in demanding industrial settings.
